Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Director of Clinical Research Operations to join our team at AbbVie. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for the on-time, budget, and quality delivery and execution of start-up and maintenance activities for clinical studies within your assigned region.

In this role, you will serve as a single point of accountability across the region for the delivery and execution of site start-up and maintenance activities. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of Area SSU Leads and overseeing their growth and development;
  • Managing resourcing, hiring, performance reviews, and talent development for designated area staff;
  • Providing strategic input on regional and country strategies, timelines, site profiles, and risk assessments;
  • Establishing country/site activation plans, including risk assessments and mitigation planning;
  • Driving the maintenance of country and site intelligence for assigned regions;
  • Providing regular updates and metrics to senior leadership on regional start-up performance;
  • Leading quality management through risk-based thinking;
  • Developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance regional performance;
  • Managing identified risks through effective mitigation plans;
  • Ensuring audit/inspection readiness and compliance with global regulations and guidelines.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare or scientific field;
  • A minimum of 12 years of clinical research experience, preferably with 5+ years of relevant study start-up management experience;
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in line management, including acquisition of talent, performance management, growth, and development;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and retain high-performing staff;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all roles within the job family;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight;
  • Proven leadership skills in a cross-functional global team environment;
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to communicate persuasively and with clarity;
  • Demonstrated program execution skills, preferably in start-up;
  • Advanced working knowledge of ICH and GCP guidelines;
  • Operational understanding of the global regulatory environment.
Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is between $120,000 and $180,000, depending on location and experience.
