Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled and creative Digital Graphics Journalist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about storytelling and visualisation.

As a Digital Graphics Journalist, you will be responsible for creating engaging and informative visual stories for our newsroom. This will involve writing, designing, and collaborating with the development team to bring data-driven stories to life.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and design visual stories for the newsroom, including data visualisations and interactive graphics.
  • Carry out investigative journalism/research using data, including finding and verifying data sources.
  • Use various statistics and data science tools for data parsing, scraping, and wrangling, as well as accessing APIs or external data sources when necessary.
  • Manage workflow and process for data-driven and visual stories in the newsroom.
  • Use analytics to evaluate stories and propose changes to workflow and concepts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics, or computer science.
  • Experience in journalism and reporting (including internship) is an advantage.
  • Comfortable in either two or more of the following areas: journalism and/or reporting; data visualisation and/or infographics design; front-end web development; or data analysis programming.
  • Experience building interactive graphics using libraries such as Mapbox is an advantage.
  • Experience with one or more common databases, SQL, scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) is preferred.
  • Familiar with the latest digital storytelling, data journalism, and visual trends.
  • A team player willing to share and support other team members.
  • Attention to details, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule, which may include nights or weekends.
