About Synthetic Biology Research
The School of Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore is a leading institution in advancing biological sciences through innovative research. Our research spans various areas, including infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative diseases, telomere biology, and genome function.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team in synthetic biology and enzyme engineering. This exciting opportunity will allow you to contribute to the development of novel biocatalysts and microbial chassis.
Our team is focused on:
  • Developing novel biocatalysts and microbial chassis.
  • Designing and constructing synthetic biological systems.
  • Supporting enzyme engineering projects, including protein expression, purification, and characterization.
  • Conducting molecular cloning experiments such as DNA manipulation and PCR.
  • Maintaining cell cultures and performing bacterial or yeast transformations.
  • Troubleshooting experimental procedures and optimizing protocols.
  • Analyzing experimental data and documenting findings.
  • Collaborating with team members to drive innovative research efforts.
Our ideal candidate should have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of molecular cloning, protein expression, and purification techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, and transformation systems (bacterial or yeast) is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Familiarity with synthetic biology tools and concepts is a plus.
  • Passion for scientific research and innovation.
