Job Overview

The Trade Director role is responsible for driving volume growth and profitability in one trade direction. The successful candidate will develop and implement a strategic trade plan aligned with regional and country goals.

This position requires a commercial mindset, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage virtual teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in ocean freight forwarding and a proven track record of leadership potential.

Main Responsibilities:
  • 1. Strategy & PnL Management
    • Develop and implement trade strategies to achieve business objectives.
    • Manage FCL profit and loss on the trade direction down to GP level.
    • Support Trade Heads in defining and driving trade strategy and country-focused trade lanes.
    • Ensure regular market information for the trade and communicate this to stakeholders.
  • 2. Carrier Management
    • Negotiate rates and conditions with carriers and conclude Service Contracts and Agreements.
    • Manage relationships with core carrier partners and align with global carrier strategy.
    • Provide fundamental base for FCL businesses on the trade.
    • Monitor carrier adherence performance weekly and monthly.
  • 3. Allocation and Yield Management
    • Responsible for allocation management on the trade direction, including setting up allocations, maintaining agreed processes, and managing supply and demand.
    • Set volume steering guidelines per country.
    • Monitor actual volumes booked and shipped and take corrective actions to optimize space utilization, fulfill carrier targets, and maximize GP.
  • 4. Volume and Pricing
    • Responsible for Port-to-Port pricing.
    • Work with Growth Teams to achieve joint approaches for SME growth and Large RFQs across the network.
    • Utilize market knowledge to obtain customer insights.
    • Provide guidance on OFR buying conditions and support Trade Heads in steering focus trade lanes.
    • Assist in customer business implementation by enabling carrier cooperation and understanding.
  • 5. Drive, Support, and/or Coordinate Global Projects upon Request.

  • Commercial mindset and result orientation.
  • Strategic but action-oriented approach that contributes to business success.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage virtual teams.
  • Good carrier contacts and experience in ocean freight forwarding.
  • Leadership potential and proven individual contributor track record.
