IT Governance Specialist Role Overview

The role of an IT Governance Specialist is a critical position within any organization. As a key member of the 1.5 line of defense, you will play a vital part in ensuring that IT operations are aligned with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining the IT governance framework and risk management processes across the organization. You will be responsible for overseeing IT risk management and controls, bridging the first and second lines of defense.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Serving as the 1.5 line of defense, overseeing IT risk management and controls.
  2. Supporting second and third-line defenses to address IT risks, drive initiatives, and facilitate audits.
  3. Identifying, assessing, and managing IT risks, focusing on operational and strategic aspects.
  4. Implementing and monitoring risk controls and mitigation strategies.
  5. Ensuring IT operations adhere to relevant regulations, including MAS TRM/TRMG.
  6. Performing ongoing testing and monitoring of IT controls.
  7. Identifying control weaknesses and recommending corrective actions.
  8. Collaborating with the first line of defense in managing incidents.
  9. Tracking and reporting on key risk indicators (KRIs) and control effectiveness metrics.

Requirements for this role include:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT governance, risk management, or compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of IT governance frameworks, risk management methodologies, and industry practice.
