Job Purpose

The Train Captain plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of SMRT North-South and East-West line passenger trains, providing a seamless commute for commuters and upholding the overall train service standards.

He/she must possess in-depth knowledge of train operations and rail systems, enabling them to make informed decisions to maintain and improve train service standards and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, enhancing the commuters' travel experience
  • Operate passenger trains competently, analyzing train faults systematically to minimize delays and incidents
  • Adhere to organizational standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure safe, secure, reliable, and efficient train service
  • Effectively communicate with the Operations Control Centre, reporting operational and situation updates
  • Make in-train public address announcements to update operational and train information to commuters onboard trains
  • Be vigilant and report any safety and security threats or infringements within railway premises
  • Participate in emergency response procedures, assist in rail service incident management, and contribute to incident investigations
  • Assist commuters in distress or casualties during emergencies
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of work systems and processes

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • NITEC in an Engineering discipline
  • Able to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
