About the Role

The Group Tax Manager is a key member of the Global financial management community and reports directly to the Group Tax Director. This role involves tax planning, compliance, controls, and reporting at Group level. Additionally, the successful candidate will be the key contact person for all Singapore tax-related matters and will be involved, on a case-by-case basis, in M&A activities and other various ad-hoc projects at the Group level.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Local Tax Reporting and Compliance
  2. Manage Singapore tax compliance matters, including reviewing and approving income tax returns and GST returns prepared by local finance or external advisors.
  3. Collaborate with local financial controllers to ensure corporate tax and GST returns are filed on time and tax liabilities are paid in due course.
  4. Manage tax queries raised by IRAS to ensure they are dealt with appropriately and on time. If necessary, seek advice from external consultants.
  5. Highlight to Group Tax Director any contentious tax issues and suggest practical solutions.
  6. Support and/or educate local financial controllers on changes in domestic tax regulations impacting their business operations.
  7. Review monthly income tax and deferred tax computations, validate accounting entries, and reconcile balances on BS accounts to support closing balances.
  8. Monitor WHT on intercompany recharges to ensure proper accrual is made at the time of billing and utilization upon settlement.
  9. Assist in obtaining Certificate of Residence (COR) from IRAS to be entitled to treaty benefits, including apostille/notarizing the COR (where necessary).
  10. Manage the relationship with external advisors.
  11. Global Tax Reporting, Controls, and Compliance
  12. Partner and manage relationships with internal stakeholders, such as Group FC, Group FP&A, business lines CFOs, and functional heads, to ensure all taxes (current tax, deferred tax, and WHT) are properly accrued and accounted for on a monthly basis.
  13. Work collaboratively with Regional Tax teams and TP experts to ensure all aspects of taxes have been duly considered for either at each legal entity or Group level.
  14. Perform monthly PL tax analysis to ensure ETR at Group and country levels are reasonable. If not, propose necessary Group-level adjustments.
  15. Perform high-level BS review at each legal entity level on a monthly basis to ensure provisions are sufficiently maintained, DTA on tax losses are properly supported, or identify any excess provisions to be released.
  16. Undertake cash tax reconciliation and prepare monthly tax reporting (MMR) decks summarizing Group tax performance (including cash tax) against Budget and Prior Year for presentation to the Group CFO.
  17. Provide tax commentaries to PATMI and Board decks prepared by Group FC.
  18. Manage the Budget process (including cash tax) for the Group with close collaboration with Group FP&A.
  19. Assist in the year-end statutory audit process of the Group, including preparing the tax provision for Singapore entities, relevant tax notes, and/or reviewing tax disclosures in the consolidated Group audited accounts.
  20. Manage the implementation of Group's tax policy and controls to ensure consistent application across countries.
  21. Identify any non-compliance through the tax compliance checklist submitted by local financial controllers on a monthly basis and feedback to business line CFOs and Group Tax Director for necessary action.
Requirements

Accredited Tax Practitioner (Income Tax) qualification is preferred. Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate tax, GST, withholding tax, and transfer pricing from Big 4 and large MNCs. In-house tax experience in a fast-paced environment and cross-cultural organization. Hands-on experience in tax reporting either at Regional or Group level. Hands-on experience in preparing tax disclosure notes in audited accounts is preferred. Strong technical knowledge of Singapore tax regime. Knowledge of global frameworks related to direct/indirect tax and transfer pricing. Strong knowledge and application of tax accounting principles at Group consolidation level. Well-organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to deliver in tight deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, working knowledge of some ERP system is preferred. Ability to deal with multiple stakeholders across different cultures. Ability to work independently without much supervision.
