About the Role:

The Mandai Wildlife Group is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Avian Veterinary Resident to join our team. As a key member of our wildlife care team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the birds in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direct supervision of an experienced veterinarian to provide preventative and routine veterinary care to birds, including multimodal treatments and surgery.
  • Develop and implement a preventive medicine program that includes quarantine, routine exams, disease monitoring, parasite control, vaccinations, geriatric care programs, and periodic nutrition reviews.
  • Diagnose illness and injury in collection animals and provide appropriate treatment and therapies.
  • Perform gross necropsies and collect samples for histopathology, prepare necropsy reports, and analyze findings to formulate recommendations for preventive measures.
  • Prepare and maintain required records, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
  • Support conservation programs and other research efforts by collecting samples and gathering and submitting data as appropriate.
  • Prepare protocols, reports, and presentations for publication or delivery at both professional and public forums.

Requirements:

  • Internationally recognized degree in Veterinary Medicine.
  • At least 12 months of full-time clinical practice in an internship or equivalent training program before starting the residency.
  • Ability to analyze unknown problems and conditions related to the care and treatment of birds and determine the best course of treatment.
  • Intermediate management, technical, or scientific skill related to the care of birds.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and an open mind to avian care and wildlife conservation.
  • Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hour assignments.
