Mandai Wildlife Group is the steward of Mandai Wildlife Reserve, a unique wildlife and nature destination in Singapore that is home to world-renown wildlife parks which connect visitors to the fascinating world of wildlife. The Group is driving an exciting rejuvenation plan at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, adjacent to Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve, that will integrate five wildlife parks with distinctive nature-based experiences, green public spaces and an eco-friendly resort.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Avian Veterinary Residency is a 3-year training program that allows a veterinarian to acquire advance knowledge and skills in avian practice under the direct supervision of an ABVP Diplomate and other ECZM and ACCM Diplomates, specialists, and mentors. The objective is to promote proficiency in the science and art of veterinary medicine, surgery, and related disciplines, and to provide opportunities to pursue careers in clinical and specialty practice, teaching, research, and/or public service. The residency is also valuable for current practitioners who desire to increase their knowledge and clinical skills.
The avian veterinary resident works in a team environment to provide preventative and routine veterinary care, including multimodal treatments and surgery, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the birds under the care of Mandai Wildlife Group.
Main duties and responsibilities as follows:
Reports to and mentored by American Board of Veterinary Practitioner (Avian Practice) certified Vice President Additional mentorship is provided by a European College of Zoological Medicine (Avian Medicine) certified Assistant Vice President, as well as Asian College of Zoological Medicine certified pathologist and veterinarians. Fulfill requirements set out by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioner Residency Handbook (). Implement a preventive medicine program that includes quarantine, routine exams, disease monitoring, parasite control, vaccinations, geriatric care programs and periodic nutrition reviews. Diagnose illness and injury in collection animals and provide appropriate treatment and therapies. Perform gross necropsies and collect samples for histopathlogy, prepare necropsy reports and analyze findings, formulate recommendations for preventive measures. Prepare and maintain required records, ensuring accuracy and professionalism. Support conservation programs and other research efforts by collecting samples and by gathering and submitting data as appropriate. Prepare protocols, reports and presentations for publication or delivery at both professional and public forums. Perform other duties as requested.Job Requirements:
Internationally recognised degree in Veterinary Medicine. At least 12 months of full-time clinical practice in an internship or equivalent training program before starting the residency. Ability to analyse unknown problems and conditions related to the care and treatment of birds; and determine the best course of treatment. Intermediate management, technical or scientific skill related to the care of birds. Must demonstrate initiative and an open mind to avian care and wildlife conservation. Able to work in a multi-culture and diverse environment Excellent verbal and written English Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hour assignments.
