Senior Data Scientist - Optimization Track

This role involves expanding one's data science and machine learning skills to include exact/approximate methods for linear and nonlinear optimization problems.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify challenging problems in mathematical optimization and operations research, design, develop, and deploy optimization solutions that have a direct impact on aircraft assignment, crew scheduling, and other related operational areas.

The selected professional will work closely with application development teams to help them operationalize and integrate optimization capabilities on their software systems, advise on data requirements, API design, performance considerations, and monitoring.

Responsibilities also include monitoring and maintaining production optimization services, troubleshooting issues, and iterating on models and algorithms as business needs evolve.

  • Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field is required; PhD and MS degrees related to mathematical optimization are highly desirable.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python are essential, along with a good understanding of some subareas of optimization algorithms, such as those in gradient-based methods or metaheuristic methods.
  • Familiarity with common Python optimization libraries, modern optimization platforms, predictive modelling, shallow machine learning, and information retrieval is also required.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or similar public cloud environments is beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with both technical staff and non-technical business users are necessary.
