Boiler Operator Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Operate and maintain boilers to ensure maximum efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities:

  1. Adjust, read, and interpret gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters to optimize boiler performance.
  2. Monitor and control boiler plant operations using electronic or pneumatic controls, pressure gauges, and safety devices.
  3. Supervise chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water to prevent corrosion and scaling.
  4. Startup, operate, shut-down, and troubleshoot utilities like air compressors, air dryers, cooling towers, DI water plants, steam boilers, thermal oil heaters, and fire protection systems.
  5. Perform routine maintenance on process plant equipment to ensure smooth operation.
  6. Install, service, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul basic machinery, pumps, valves, compressors, and conveyor systems.
  7. Conduct preventive maintenance on plant equipment in coordination with service providers and superiors.
  8. Monitor normal operation of plant equipment and machinery, troubleshooting as necessary to minimize downtime.
  9. Carry out steam heating according to requirements.
  10. Ensure compliance with legislative and operational requirements.
  11. Able to work rotating shifts and follow duty rosters.
  12. Perform job safety analysis, job safety observations, risk assessments on utility operations and maintenance services.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Overhaul and preventive maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of water treatment and fire protection systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and packaging techniques.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
