Database Administrator Job Description

You will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and performance of our SQL Server instances.

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server instances across development, QA, and production environments.
  • Configure and support Always-On Availability Groups, failover clusters, and other high availability/disaster recovery solutions.
  • Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, and migrations across SQL Server versions.
  • Conduct performance tuning using indexing strategies, query optimization, and monitoring tools like SQL Profiler and Extended Events.
  • Provide level 3-level support for escalated tickets from level 2 teams, including incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in 24x7 production support, including weekend and off-hours coverage for outages and scheduled activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expertise in SQL Server administration, including backup and recovery, security, and performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and development principles.
  • Experience with configuration management, change control, and deployment processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.

  • Set up and maintain automated alerts, health checks, and performance dashboards.
  • Redesign and automate SQL reports based on business requirements.
  • Document resolution steps and best practices in centralized knowledge bases.
  • Support UAT data setup for bug fixes and application releases.
  • Coordinate deployments to UAT and production environments in collaboration with development and infrastructure teams.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings for approval of DB changes.
  • Configure and maintain user roles, permissions, and SQL security policies.
  • Provide audit deliverables for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards for data integrity and access control.
