Family Specialist Role

You will join a team of mental health professionals with a strong culture of support, learning and supervision from diverse backgrounds and work experiences.

As a specialist, you will provide services within the court system to assist families and the courts to achieve the best outcomes for families and children at various stages of court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide counselling and mediation services for divorce, child-custody, family violence, and emotional/psychological related concerns.
  • Conduct assessments of care and protection, youth arrest and family guidance cases.
  • Manage risk screening and case management in family violence, vulnerable adult and child protection matters.
  • Prepare child custody or brief assessment reports to the court.

Additionally, you may be involved in research, monitoring trend analysis, and evaluation of services to inform professional practice and programmes within the justice system. You will participate in on-going professional supervision and development programmes.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant professional degree, preferably a Masters in psychology, counselling and social work with eligibility for full clinical membership with a social work or mental health professional association.
  • At least 5 years of graduate work experience with couples, families, children and/or youth.
  • Experience in areas of custody evaluations, forensic assessments or mediation and conciliation will be advantageous.

Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to demonstrate strong analytical thinking through oral presentation and written reports. You must be able to prioritise and juggle multiple roles in a dynamic environment.
