Job Title: Science Support Specialist

Overview

The Science Support Specialist will play a pivotal role in the efficient operation of our Science Department. This dynamic individual will be responsible for assisting with laboratory and event operations, ensuring the highest level of service delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare apparatus and materials for lessons in conjunction with Science representatives.
  • Coordinate equipment and material preparation for internal performance tasks.
  • Assist in invigilation of Science practical examinations to maintain academic integrity.
  • Collaborate with Operations Support Officers to maintain the cleanliness of Science labs and rooftop areas.
  • Manage stock records, inventories, and equipment lists to ensure seamless operations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in Science labs to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Maintain the condition of labs and rooftop areas to promote a conducive learning environment.
  • Support teachers with Science-related events such as Discover Science, STEM Carnival, and Hydroponics activities.
  • Enhance Science labs with print-rich displays to engage students and promote learning.
  • Perform routine servicing and maintenance of laboratory equipment to extend its lifespan.
  • Arrange repairs with external service providers when necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Care for fauna and flora within the Science Department in accordance with regulations and best practices.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the school administration.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemical preparation, disposal procedures, and hazardous spill clean-up.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel) to effectively manage data and reports.
  • Familiarity with classroom procedures for Science experiments and group work to ensure smooth execution.
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good organizational skills and time management to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy to prevent errors and ensure quality work.
  • Ability to provide guidance, instructions, and advice on workflow and procedures to team members.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.

Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a primary school Science laboratory setting is preferred but not required.
