Strategic IP Advisor Role Description

We are seeking a qualified professional to fill the position of Strategic IP Advisor. This role reports to the Chief Intellectual Property Officer, based in Europe.

  • Innovation Safeguarding & Portfolio Oversight: Discover and secure new technical developments while managing existing intellectual property holdings.
  • Patent Development & Prosecution: Partner with external experts to prepare and advance patent applications through to approval.
  • Legal Insight & Strategic Planning: Deliver assessments on third-party claims, conduct freedom-to-operate reviews, and shape intellectual property direction.
  • IP Commercialization: Explore opportunities to generate value from existing intellectual property assets.
  • Contractual Support: Draft and evaluate agreements related to technology collaborations and licensing.
  • Team Leadership Potential: Opportunity to grow into a leadership role within the intellectual property function over time.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Commonwealth Law Patent Attorney with a postgraduate degree in engineering or science, having strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize effectively. Familiarity with technologies such as LED systems, semiconductor processes, optics, electronics, and thermal management is advantageous. The successful applicant should possess a business-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach, excellent communication and negotiation skills for cross-functional and external engagement, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, strategic environment.
