About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate After School Care Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing quality after-school care and educational support to students with special needs.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide supervision and care for children and youth, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being at all times. This will involve assisting students with daily living activities, such as toileting and showering, as well as supporting them with homework and additional academic revision.

In addition to these core duties, you will also be responsible for implementing and managing behavior strategies to promote positive student behavior, facilitating social skills activities to encourage peer interaction and communication, and planning and organizing community outings and leisure activities to promote independence.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and behavior management skills, as well as patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Relevant qualifications in Special Education, Psychology, or related fields are an advantage, but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide supervision and care for children and youth
  • Assist students with daily living activities, including toileting and showering
  • Support students with homework and provide additional academic revision
  • Implement and manage behavior strategies to support positive student behavior
  • Facilitate social skills activities to encourage peer interaction and communication
  • Plan and organize community outings and leisure activities to promote independence
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children and youths with special needs (autism, learning difficulties preferred)
  • Passion for working with special needs individuals in a nurturing and respectful manner
  • Ability to assist with personal care tasks (toileting, changing, showering) when required
  • Strong communication and behavior management skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
  • Relevant qualifications in Special Education, Psychology, or related fields are an advantage
