Visual Journalist Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Visual Journalist to join our newsroom. As a Visual Journalist, you will collaborate with journalists and sub-editors to create original data visualisations and graphics content based on researched data, enhancing readers' engagement.

About the Role

You will work with journalists and sub-editors to create original data visualisations and graphics content based on researched data, enhancing readers' engagement. You must identify potential ideas for content and search for appropriate verified data to visualise into graphics that simplify complex ideas into visuals.

  • Collaborate with journalists and sub-editors to understand the requirements and translate them into visual designs that accurately represent the underlying data, editorial angle, or product request.
  • Use reliable data visualisation tools to represent the harvested data and support the content.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure that interactive graphics are user-friendly, responsive, and accessible across various devices.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continually improve and innovate our interactive content.
  • Conduct research alongside writers to find/verify data sources.
  • Layout pages in an engaging manner to enhance reader interaction.
Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant course in Visual Communications or similar qualification.
  • At least two years of relevant experience.
  • Able to articulate ideas visually.
  • Proficiency with data visualisation and interactive web design platforms.
  • Proficiency in English and Tamil languages.
  • Familiarity with the use of Tamil fonts in various software applications.
  • Creative individual and a self-starter who initiates and executes innovative content.
  • Inclination towards visual storytelling and crunching large volumes of data into visual charts, graphics, and imagery.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work on weekends and public holidays.
