Job Title: Medical Laboratory Specialist

Job Description:

  • Perform histological testing, including sample accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and re-embedding of tissue specimens.
  • Carry out routine H&E stain, special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and in-situ hybridization (ISH) stains according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct slide scanning and macrodissection as required according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Evaluate sample acceptability based on established guidelines and process specimens for analysis in accordance with established written procedures.
  • Accurately evaluate test results according to standardized protocols.
  • Maintain quality control measures during testing to ensure compliance with established quality standards. Document corrective and preventative actions with good documentation practices.
  • Maintain an overview of reagent inventory.
  • Assist in the proper maintenance and servicing of laboratory equipment in line with manufacturer specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in internal and external quality assessment as required.
  • Comply with good laboratory practices for all procedures in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a biomedical or biological science from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a clinical histology laboratory will be preferred.
  • Good analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently as well as a good team player with initiative and adaptability to change.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
