Biological Sample Investigator Role Overview

This position focuses on the characterization of biological samples using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

The successful candidate will have expertise in TEM sample preparation and imaging, with a strong background in eukaryotic cell culture and standard cell biology techniques. They will also have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • TEM Sample Preparation: Prepare biological samples for TEM, including fixation, staining, sectioning, embedding, and mounting.
  • TEM Imaging: Perform TEM imaging and support data acquisition and basic image analysis.
  • Sample Record Keeping: Maintain clear records of sample preparation protocols, imaging parameters, and results.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Share knowledge and provide guidance on sample preparation and imaging workflows as needed.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to integrate TEM findings into broader research studies.
  • Junior Researcher Support: Assist in training and supporting junior researchers in TEM techniques.
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree: PhD in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biophysics, or a related life science discipline.
  • TEM Experience: Practical experience in TEM sample preparation and imaging of biological specimens.
  • Cell Culture Skills: Familiarity with eukaryotic cell culture and standard cell biology techniques.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Research Contributions: Evidence of research contributions through publications or presentations.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a core imaging facility or collaborative research setting, familiarity with TEM protocols for mammalian and other eukaryotic biological samples, experience with CLEM workflows, and basic skills in microscopy image analysis and quantitative data processing.
