Senior Research Professor

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for a senior-level faculty position in Soft and Biological Matter. We seek an outstanding individual with a distinguished record of research, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to academic leadership. The appointment will be tenured, at the rank of full professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position is created in association with the newly founded Research Centre of Excellence, Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS). IDMxS aims to develop new digital paradigms for sensing and diagnosing at the molecular level, linking the molecular world of biological sciences with information technology and data science.
Responsibilities:
Research Excellence:
- Lead research in soft matter, focusing on self-assembly, surface and interface chemistry, molecular recognition, phase transitions, membranes, colloids, and nanoparticles.
- Apply expertise in membrane biophysics, membrane-based biosensors, vesicles, and synthetic cells, as well as optical and fluorescence methods.
- Synthesize scientific information across detection chemistry, transduction approaches, and data analytics.
- Publish high-impact research papers and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in these fields.
- Secure external research funding and develop a vibrant research program.
- Lead scientific activities within the Detection Cluster at IDMxS.
Teaching and Mentoring:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in soft and biological matter, digital molecular sciences, and biomolecular materials.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows, fostering a collaborative research community.
- Contribute to graduate and postdoctoral recruitment and retention efforts for IDMxS.
- Contribute to curriculum development for digital molecular sciences.
Service and Leadership:
- Provide scientific leadership for the detection cluster and develop partnerships with other clusters on transduction, analytics, and translation.
- Foster partnerships with relevant research centres of excellence, including SCELSE and I-FIM.
- Serve on the executive leadership team of IDMxS.
- Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
- Contribute to the academic community through conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Materials Science or a related field.
- Currently appointed as a tenured, full professor at a leading international university.
- A distinguished record of scholarly achievements in soft and biological matter, demonstrated through high-impact publications, conference presentations, and external funding.
- Leadership in the professional community, as demonstrated by conference organization, invited seminars, and professional service.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Strong commitment to academic service and leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
