As a key member of the Southeast Asia underwriting division, you will take on the role of Property Treaty Underwriter (including Engineering) and engage in a variety of property underwriting responsibilities. Your focus will be on assessing risks associated with Property treaty business, particularly in relation to natural catastrophes and fire risks, while also handling pricing, contractual language, product development, and client interactions.

Your Responsibilities:

Underwriting:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of property treaty accounts and structures utilizing natural catastrophe models and statistical methodologies.
  • Collaborate with the client management team to establish pricing and negotiate terms and conditions of programs.
  • Maintain a high standard of underwriting excellence, from technical pricing to contract formulation.
  • Engage in discussions and collaborations with underwriting teams and experts within the Munich Re group, including the development of pricing models and tools.
  • Assess exposures and coverage provided under other lines of business to ensure accurate evaluation of multi-line treaties.
  • Lead and support cross-functional initiatives, property-specific projects, and conduct relevant market research.
  • Mentor and train junior underwriters on underwriting practices, market insights, and client engagement.

Product Development:

  • Explore innovative business ideas and contribute to product development in both reinsurance and primary insurance sectors, including non-traditional products such as catastrophe triggers and digital solutions.
  • Consult with clients to identify challenges and opportunities for growth.

Client Engagement and Marketing:

  • Assist the client management team with technical insights during negotiations with clients and brokers.

Your Qualifications:

  • A university degree in Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or relevant insurance qualifications.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in treaty (re)insurance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a structured and logical approach.
  • Programming experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the Southeast Asian re/insurance market, including original policy coverage and market dynamics.
  • A keen interest in catastrophe insurance and a desire for career advancement in treaty underwriting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong project management skills.
  • A high level of curiosity and commitment to skill development.
  • Proficient in managing relationships and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
