Candidate Profile

  • The successful applicant should possess a degree or equivalent, ideally in business, economics, mathematics, or finance.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in a Back Office setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with LNG, gas, power, and emissions markets is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • High proficiency in numeracy and computer skills, along with effective verbal and non-verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency under tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Knowledge of energy commodity markets is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Programming skills in Python or VBA/Excel are beneficial.
  • Flexibility in working hours is necessary.
  • A strong motivation to enhance processes and systems is expected.
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities are a plus.
  • A digital mindset and the capacity to learn new digital skills are crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a portfolio of counterparts.
  • Ensure accurate representation of trading information in the trading book by confirming transactions with counterparts and brokers daily.
  • Monitor and validate exchange-traded positions and limits.
  • Report financial OTC trades to regulators within 24 hours of execution.
  • Issue invoices to counterparts and process payments in accordance with industry and contractual deadlines.
  • Reconcile counterpart/pipeline invoices with the system in collaboration with Operations and Middle Office to resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with counterparts on settlements, provide timely payment instructions, and assist the Treasury team with cash forecasts, as well as support the Accounting team with aged debt reporting and resolution.
  • Assist with any Back Office-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Critically assess and improve procedures for submission to the Back Office Manager.
  • Engage in team and individual projects assigned by the Back Office Manager, taking on project leadership roles when necessary.
  • Perform general Back Office tasks including archiving and filing.
  • Support and identify opportunities for process and systems improvements, from system testing to desk-level processes.
  • Develop new tools to enhance and optimize processes and create reports tailored to business developments.
  • Proactively identify and communicate operational risks, establishing and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely confirmation and invoicing of all transactions.
  • Maintain effective communication with various internal and external parties.

Work Environment

  • The dynamic trading environment necessitates the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential for collaboration within the team and with other departments.
  • Adherence to industry and contractual deadlines is critical to fulfilling the company's obligations. Resolving discrepancies and counterpart issues requires the ability to seek necessary information for effective problem-solving.
  • Compliance with reporting and monitoring obligations under regulations such as the Dodd-Frank Act, EMIR, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act demands diligence and attention to detail.
  • The Back Office Analyst is a member of the Global Risk Control team and collaborates closely with Front Office, Operations, Middle Office, Legal & Compliance, Credit, Treasury, Trading Accounting, and IT teams.

  • Support Back Office operations, focusing on Gas, Power, and LNG markets, with an emphasis on the LNG sector.
  • Ensure timely processing of all payments and invoices in accordance with contractual agreements.
  • Handle confirmations and settlements of daily executed trades, along with regular pricing and volume adjustments.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new contracts and manage regular internal and external audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Oversee IT project developments to ensure alignment with global Back Office requirements.
  • Engage in system development support and testing.
  • Short-term international mobility may be required.
