As a Music Therapist, you will play a vital role in the care and support of patients and their families. You will administer music therapy as part of a comprehensive therapeutic treatment plan, addressing physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.

  • Clinical Assessment & Intervention

You will receive referrals and conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients' emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs. You will develop individualized treatment plans based on therapeutic goals, patient preferences, and abilities. You will facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions to promote emotional well-being, meaningful engagement, and enhanced quality of life.

Evaluating the effectiveness of interventions and adjusting approaches as needed is also an essential part of this role.

  • Documentation & Ethical Practice

Accurate and confidential records of assessments, treatment plans, session notes, and patient progress are crucial. You will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to provide updates on patient and family engagement. You will refer patients to other professionals for complex needs such as severe depression, suicide risk, or complicated grief.

  • Program Development & Research

Supporting the development of programs to address service gaps and enhance care delivery is key to this role. Contributing to research projects to advance evidence-based music therapy in palliative care is also important. You will promote awareness of music therapy through presentations, public engagement, and stakeholder outreach.

  • Professional Development & Collaboration

Maintaining professional competence through supervision, continuing education, and self-care is essential. Attending departmental meetings and providing updates on activities and projects is also required. Collaborating with inter-professional teams to design and evaluate holistic interventions for patients and families is a critical aspect of this role.
