The role of a Senior Nurse Manager is to lead the nursing team and related healthcare workers in a ward. The nurse manager plays a pivotal part in ensuring that patients receive the highest quality care.
- Key responsibilities include attending case management rounds, participating in family conferences, and resolving problems as they arise.
- A key component of the job is undertaking 'on call' duties to ensure continuity of care.
- The nurse manager also undertakes teaching and resource roles in nursing practice, providing guidance and support to nursing staff.
- Monthly Incidents and Infections statistics are compiled by the nurse manager as necessary.
- Active participation in organization meetings is expected.
- Performance appraisal is conducted according to organization policy.
- The nurse manager promotes participation for staff in continuing education and wellness programs.
- Monthly ward meetings are conducted to facilitate communication and collaboration among team members.
- Committee work is also an important aspect of the role.
- Volunteering activities are encouraged.
- Maintenance of standards of nursing care is monitored, evaluated, and assisted by the nurse manager.
- Quality assurance activities are coordinated and collated quarterly.
- Additional duties may be assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department.
- A degree in Nursing recognized by the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) is essential.
- Preferably 5 years of experience in providing nursing care, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Operational and management experience is desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
- Strong decision making, action planning, prioritization, and problem-solving skills are necessary.
- Ability to lead, work, and strive in multi-disciplinary teams is critical.
- Exceptional organization development skills are expected.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
