Job Title: Career Support Specialist
Job Description:
As a Career Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing tailored support and guidance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, enabling them to successfully acquire and maintain employment. This role involves collaborating with families, colleagues, supervisors, and support networks to foster inclusive workplaces and empower individuals to reach their fullest potential.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with individuals with disabilities to provide on-site individualized coaching and hands-on training to help students learn job tasks, workplace routines, and appropriate social behaviors.
  • Assess and provide recommendations on necessary workplace and process modifications to assist individuals with disabilities in job assimilation and task performance.
  • Design and implement job support strategies for various job roles to better support individuals with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with employers, supervisors or colleagues to facilitate workplace accommodations and ensure a supportive environment.
  • Impart social and soft skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork, to individuals with disabilities as part of work preparation.

Required Skills and Qualifications: Essential Skills & Qualifications:
A diploma or degree in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology or related field is preferred. You should have experience in job coaching or working with adults with special needs or disabilities. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are also essential. Patience, empathy, and a commitment to promoting inclusion and independence are required. Additionally, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders (students, families, supervisors, agencies) and adapt to changing circumstances is necessary.
