Overview

Expeditors is a world-class logistics company seeking an experienced attorney with significant labor and employment law experience in Asia Pacific countries to fill its Corporate Counsel position based in Singapore. As part of our legal department, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice on labor and employment matters.

 

Salary

The estimated annualized base salary for this role is SGD $200,000 - $300,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, discretionary bonuses and equity awards may be awarded based on job performance.

 

Job Description

This Corporate Counsel position involves providing counsel and guidance to business teams on compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting executives, managers, employee relations, health and safety, payroll, information services, and operations teams regarding labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Advising on issues such as discipline, non-competition, terminations, performance management, relocations, leave, disability, contingent workers, pay equity, pay transparency, contractor management, occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination, wage and hour, immigration, employee personal data privacy, and union/labor relations
  • Managing litigation, outside counsel, and budgets
  • Representing or managing matters before fair employment, civil rights, and human rights agencies
  • Conducting and managing internal investigations
  • Responding to governmental subpoenas, investigations, and audits
  • Drafting and revising employment policies, standards, and internal work regulations
  • Drafting service provider, commission, non-compete, restrictive covenant, employment, and settlement agreements
  • Developing and delivering client training on compliance with labor and employment laws
  • Leading responses to governmental inquiries into employment and labor-related matters
  • Performing project management work for legal projects
  • Formulating efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectives
  • Providing effective cross-functional support inside and outside the legal department
  • Assisting in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiatives
  • Performing other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Juris Doctor, Bachelor of Laws, LLM, or equivalent degree
  • Legal qualification from Singapore or an international jurisdiction
  • 5-10 years of experience in a top law firm, preferably in-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company
  • Strong knowledge of and practical experience advising on labor and employment laws and regulations
  • Practical experience working with trade unions preferred
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to work independently
