Job Purpose:
The role is within the Eastern Syndicate, which focuses on serving Members from the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and Asia to Australia.
This position will entail providing expert P&I and FDD claims handling services and advice to Members in Southeast Asia and Korea.
Key Responsibilities:
- To promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the Claims team is responsible.
- Handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims-related issues, and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
- Ensure that all electronic correspondence, whether received or sent, relating to claim files assigned to the particular individual is promptly and correctly filed in accordance with agreed working practices.
- Delegate appropriate work and assist in the development of the capabilities of Claims Assistants to maximise their potential.
- Understand the importance of and promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the Claims team is responsible.
- Contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
- Produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
- Support the Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
- Carry out any other duties that are within the scope of personal skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- Participate in meetings/engagements with service providers, including Club correspondents, lawyers, and brokers.
- Attend appropriate training and develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Person Specification:
- Proven experience handling shipping litigation and dispute resolution, from either another P&I club, insurer, law firm, or shipowner.
- Degree-educated with preferably LLB or LLM in Maritime Law or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal).
- Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes and prioritise individual workload.
- Proactive and able to use own initiative.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a team.
