Special Education Teacher Job Description

The role of a Special Education Teacher is multifaceted and involves providing teaching, training, and guidance to students with special needs.

  • Teaching and Training: As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for designing and implementing tailored educational programs that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Daily School Programs and Activities: You will be tasked with organising and implementing daily school programs and activities that promote socialisation, emotional development, and academic growth.
  • Curriculum Planning: You will contribute to the planning and enhancement of the curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant and effective in meeting the needs of students with special needs.
  • Student Behaviour Tracking: You will track and analyse student behaviour through systematic data collection, providing valuable insights to inform teaching practices.
  • Team Collaboration: You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and parents to ensure quality education and care for students.
  • IEP Development: You will develop Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), along with preparing reports, records, and documentation to support student progress.
  • Mentorship: You will support, guide, and mentor junior teaching staff in their roles, promoting professional growth and development.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: A recognised Diploma or Degree in Special Education or equivalent is required.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for working with students with special needs.
