Laboratory Professional

The Senior Medical Technologist plays a pivotal role in the laboratory, responsible for performing complex test procedures including routine sample processing, chemical analyses, and bacteriological procedures.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses on blood, CSF, urine, and other body fluids, ensuring accurate results are obtained and documented.
- Conduct routine haematology procedures, including complete blood counts and coagulation tests, adhering to established protocols.
- Routine bacteriological procedures, such as cultures, isolation, and identification techniques, are also conducted by the Senior Medical Technologist.
- Responsibilities include routine Blood Banking procedures, immunology and serology procedures, and microscopy procedures.
- Additionally, the Senior Medical Technologist registers patient samples, handles telephone inquiries, and prints/faxes patient results in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with Laboratory policy for registration, billing, identification, processing, reporting, result retrieval, and record/specimen keeping.
- Proper inventory levels of clinical laboratory consumables and reagents must be maintained at all times.
- Instrument performance checks and equipment malfunctions must be reported promptly.
Qualifications:
- Recognition of a Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent qualification is required.
- Recognised Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology or Diploma or equivalent qualification is also necessary.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory is essential.
