Roles & Responsibilities

HWA International School values creativity, diversity, and academic excellence. We are hiring an IB English Literature specialist to nurture students' love of reading, writing and critical analysis through the rich world of literature.

Teaching duties

  • Teach IB English Literature at MYP and DP levels.
  • Introduce students to a wide range of classic and contemporary texts in literature.
  • Develop lessons that promote deep analysis of themes, context, and language.
  • Guide students through IB assessment components for English Literature.
  • Participate in curriculum development and enrichment activities.
  • Demonstrate through collaboration, planning and teaching, the IB and MYP/DP framework of concepts within contexts, and inquiry-based learning that is balanced with specific skills of 'how to learn', leading learning towards the IB vision and the aims of individual subject areas and that incorporates interdisciplinary teaching and learning
  • Work and collaborate with Student Support Department to enrich curriculum and student learning
  • To differentiate and target learning to students' needs and aptitude levels
  • Be culturally and linguistically responsive and proactive

Non-teaching duties:

  • Understand and implement the expectations and policies established by HWA
  • Participate in professional duties as necessary outside of the scope of the school day (e.g. Field trips, professional development on weekends as needed, and after school meetings as required)
  • Supervise duties at break/lunch and/or other unstructured times
  • Lead/coach an after school CCA (co-curricular activity)
  • Assist in internal sub coverage according to department needs
  • Provide any other reasonable duties delegated by the School
  • Contribute to school continuous improvement by being a member of assigned committee or work group
  • Responsible for homeroom teacher duties
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote interdisciplinary learning.

Relationships

  • Develop trust and effective relationships with all students in the classes and their parents
  • Establish supportive, collaborative, and positive working relationships with all other members of staff
  • Become a positive presence across the whole school and a representative of it within its wider community

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Literature or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching IB English Literature preferred.
  • Strong subject knowledge in literary studies and analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills.
  • 2 to 3 years of working experience in the related field is preferred
  • Curriculum development knowledge is required
