SUMMARY:
To effectively manage the assigned interchange and lead the performance of their assigned group of Operations Staff, ensuring that their management leads to the company delivering a safe, punctual, reliable, cost effective and efficient service to the customers.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
- Manage Interchange Operations Staff to ensure delivery of all relevant key performance indicators.
- Appraise and improve the skills of their staff and ensuring that any training needs are identified and acted upon.
- Endorse investigation reports submitted by the Interchange Executive/Senior Interchange Supervisor, undertaking disciplinary inquiries when required. Disciplinary inquiries should primarily be viewed as an improvement mechanism and not as an opportunity to dismiss. Possible areas that may fall into this category include -
- Managing Attendance – ensuring regular attendance through actively undertaking return to work interviews and reviewing absence records.
- Managing Driving Standards – ensuring all incidents are fully investigated including a review of the driving history, telematics scores and reviewing any prior training.
- Customer Service & Experience – ensure that all staff understand the importance of Customer Service and ensuring that customer complaints are minimised.
- General Conduct – ensuring Drivers actively comply with company safety rules, and that they adhere to all established company standards, e.g. BSRF Adherence, Pre-Service Checks, Uniform Standards etc.
- Deal promptly and investigating fully any grievances raised by the Operations Staff.
- Ensure smooth operations at the assigned Interchange, liaising with the Corporate Services Department in relations to Interchange Security, Safety and Facilities.
- Manage effectively environmental issues within your direct control, this includes encouraging all the Operations staff to drive more fuel efficiently through the effective use of installed telematics systems and respecting the idling policy.
- Ensure operations induction is conducted for new operations staff recruited by the company.
- Provide input into staff planning and resourcing to ensure that there are sufficient Operating Staff to meet the demands of the business.
- Ensure cost effective management of operations staff, ensuring that money is not wasted and that solutions are considered which look at enhancing the service and reducing the costs.
- Undertake any additional reasonable duties at the request of your Ops SM.
- Undertake any training and development activities at the request of your Ops SM.
- Please note that as with all management roles there may be an occasional requirement to cover the operational duties on a 24x7 basis.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, CONDITIONS SPECIFICATIONS:
- As an Interchange Manager and one of the key managers within the depot you must proactively support the Operations Senior Managers in the achievement of the Key Performance Indicators, particularly those over which you have a direct influence, e.g. Driving Standards and attendance. These will include:
- Accident rates
- Sickness/Attendance
- Lost Time incidents
- Telematics Targets
- BSRF Targets
- It is essential that you have previous experience of managing a large group of staff, preferably in the transport sector and ideally specifically the bus industry.
- You will need to be financially aware and understand the financial implications of any decisions you make.
- You will be computer literate and be aware of relevant legislation relating to the business, particularly the Road Traffic Act, Workplace Safety & Health Act and the Employment Act.
- You must possess strong communication skills both written and verbal as you will need to communicate both verbally and in writing with a diverse workforce where English may not be their first language.
