Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

As a Temporary Additive Manufacturing Technologist to support ongoing research, teaching, and outreach activities in Innovation Centre for Additive Manufacturing in AMTC lab. You will have to support the team in 3D design and printing technologies, particularly Laser Metal Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), Vat Photopolymerization or Stereolithography (SLA), and Material Extrusion or Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). Additionally, you will work closely with technical staff and students to drive innovation and ensure safe, efficient lab operations.

Key responsibilities:
  • Design for Additive Manufacturing:
    • Perform design for additive manufacturing (AM) processes.
    • Apply design strategies suited for LPBF, SLA, and FDM technologies.
  • 3D Printing & Process Operation:
    • Prepare builds and operate additive manufacturing machines (e.g. LPBF, SLA, FDM), and AM material processing equipment.
    • Perform post-processing, part inspection, and documentation.
  • Laboratory Operations Support:
    • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
    • Maintain lab equipment, manage materials inventory, and assist in safety compliance.
  • Teaching & Student Support:
    • Assist in demonstrations and hands-on training for students.
  • Outreach & Public Engagement:
    • Participate and support in outreach events and exhibitions showcasing AM capabilities.
    • Help design and fabricate demonstration models for public engagement.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Science, or related field is preferred. Candidates without relevant experience are welcome to apply.
  • Hands-on experience with Parametric CAD software (e.g., NX, Fusion) and at least one AM process, will be beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with slicer (additive manufacturing) software, will be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with operating 3D printers and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or in teams.

This is a temporary contract which will end in March 2026 and shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 4 weeks of application.
