Roles & Responsibilities

Job purpose:

The 18-month Graduate Trainee (GT) Programme is designed for recent graduates to gain broad experience on managing a range of Trade Finance Products including Working Capital solutions and applicants must have graduated within the past 12 months. The graduate trainee works together with the specialists in Trade Finance Operations to develop a skill set as a foundation for a career in Trade Finance Back Office, Middle Office, and Trade Sales.

With due consideration of all internal and regulatory requirements and within the agreed deadlines, the graduate trainee will support the processing of the trade finance business for customers, as well as for providing specialized and process-driven advice within his/her sphere of activity. In so doing, the graduate trainee works closely with Transaction Banking/Cash/Trade Sales International, and Relationship Managers, and other department stakeholders that deal with corporate customers, supporting them by providing pertinent information in a team-oriented manner.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the graduate trainee will be considered for permanent employment opportunities subject to overall strong performance during traineeship and business conditions.

Key activities:

Support the Trade Finance Operations Team on the following activities:

• Depending on each task allocated, the processing covers the carrying out of all trade finance business processes in accordance with the rules, regulations and compliance-related requirements.
• Support the Operation Team on the end-to-end process in handling Documentary Credit and/or Guarantee transactions, Working Capital Solutions transactions including pre-processing & post processing tasks.
• Providing process-oriented advice to clients with due consideration given to their specific needs and the bank's operational requirements
• Support Senior Trade Specialist in performing 2nd level control (internal) on transactions executed to ensure transactions are completed in adherence to Global Procedures and /or Internal Guidelines
• Support Local Head in reviewing and/or updating Internal/Global procedures/guidelines whenever required
• Support Local Head on any adhoc topic/initiative/project
• Ensuring compliance with first line of defence and all suspicions of breaches of the legal and regulatory requirements are properly and fully investigated and reported as appropriate.
• Maintaining a good working knowledge of the Trade Finance market, its' regulations and practices
• Develop a good understanding of financial crime compliance and related controls.

Formal education:

• Recent graduates with not more than 1 year of professional work experience (excluding internships)
• University degree, preferably in Business Finance/Social Science/Applied Science study

Specialist knowledge (work experience, further qualification):

• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
• Client centric and service oriented with good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to work under time pressure
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• High level of initiative and responsibility
• Embrace new challenges and open to exploring different locations
• Singaporeans and PRs are preferred
