The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) at Singapore Management University (SMU) invites applications for a Lecturer position in Political Science. This position will be for a fixed term of two years, to begin in July 2025.

We seek an early-career scholar with a doctoral degree in political science, history, public administration, or a closely related field. Candidates should have a strong record of research on topics such as colonial administration, bureaucratic governance, state formation, and the intersection of political and institutional development in Southeast Asia or comparable contexts.

The candidate is normally expected to teach eight course sections per academic year. This will include contributing to SMU’s interdisciplinary Big Questions module, which engages students in addressing critical issues from a broad and multidisciplinary perspective, as well as developing and teaching a new module on American Politics.

The candidate will also be encouraged to develop an independent research agenda. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in historical methods, textual analysis (e.g., text reuse approaches), or social network analysis, as well as those with experience in archival research and qualitative process tracing. Knowledge of land governance, imperial administration, or the evolution of legal frameworks in colonial contexts would be a significant advantage.

Singapore Management University is a research university committed to an interdisciplinary and integrated curriculum, providing opportunities to work with faculty across the humanities and social sciences. The research support is excellent. Salary and benefits are highly competitive. The teaching load is comparable to other research universities, with undergraduate classes typically no more than 48 students.
