NewCurriculum - Interdisciplinary CollaborativeCore

NTU is transforming its educationobjectives towards more interdisciplinarity and collaborativelearning for the foundation years of its undergraduate curriculum.A new interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum will beintroduced in the academic year of 2021 to develop students'cognitive agility, competence and character, besides theirdisciplinary major. This new curriculum consists of a set of 7 corecourses which will form part of the overall degree requirement inall NTU undergraduate programmes. The courses will be concentratedover the first two years of study comprising mixed classes ofstudents from different disciplinary programmes, so that they canembrace multidisciplinary group learning as part of the overallacademic expectation from the start of their university education.Students will collaborate in different teams for their courseprojects or assignments.

Content for the 7common core courses is developed by a diverse mix of faculty andintegrated to understand issues from various perspectives. Alignedwith the learning outcomes of the desired attributes of an NTUgraduate, the courses are curated to focus on key transferableskills and the global challenges of the modern world. The courseswill adopt the flipped classroom and collaborative learningpedagogy, with content made available prior to classes, tofacilitate collaborative discussion through group-based activitiesduring class time.

Candidates are sought for anew course entitled "Science and Technology for Humanity (ST4H)",required of all undergraduates as part of NTU's InterdisciplinaryCollaborative Core (ICC). This course examines the social,economic, and political impacts of science and technology andencourages students to engage with societal problems from a broadinterdisciplinary perspective, drawing on both STEM and non-STEMdisciplines.

Responsibilities

Thisrole is critical as part of the Interdisciplinary CollaborativeCore (ICC) Office's strategy to implement NTU's Education 5.0 tofocus on interdisciplinary and collaborative curriculum and todevelop students into future-ready graduates and fulfills thefollowingresponsibilities:

  • Facilitatesand conducts all teaching assignments, both face-to-face andvirtual delivery
  • Develops, designs, andcontinuously improves curriculum plans, course outlines, evaluationprocedures and instruments to foster student learning, stimulateclass discussions, and ensure studentengagement
  • Develops an instructional plan(known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) theyteach and ensures that it meets college and schoolstandards
  • Supports course administration suchas course evaluation, online course materials, attendance records,academic counselling on studentprogress
  • Conducts assessments, marking andgrade entries, feedback to students, student consultations,non-academic matters etc.
  • Develops coursematerials and learning resources for course delivery and supportstudents' learning
  • Provides regular course andstudent progress statistics for reporting and strategic decisionmaking
  • Demonstrates values and principles ofprofessional conduct in all endeavours
  • Anyother assignedduties


Requirements

Candidateswith the following qualifications are encouraged toapply:

  • MA or PhD trainingacross STEM and humanities and social sciencefields
  • Training relevant to one of the coursetopics (e.g., the future of work, Al and robotics, syntheticbiology, technology's role in rebalancing power, transformationsfor health and wellbeing, life beyondhumanity)
  • Teaching and mentoring experience ispreferred
  • Interest and/or proficiency intechnology-enhanced learning (e.g., developing online learningactivities and assessments, creating lectures to be streamedonline)
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarshipis anadvantage
