The Role

We are seeking to appoint a full time, qualified Teacher Librarian to lead and manage a team of dynamic professionals in the Senior School library. Recent experience in teaching and supporting ages 11-18 and proficiency in using technology as a learning tool is essential. The ability to work as part of a team and lead collaboratively is an essential element of the role. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership, a tangible passion for literature, a commitment to high standards and a proven track record of excellence in schools.


This position is on a 40-day annual leave type.


Key Responsibilities


1. Leadership of the Senior Library

  • Lead the team in the Senior Library.
  • Provide guidance and support to Senior Library staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of the program offered by the Senior Library.
  • Contribute to the school’s improvement plan and curriculum development by participating in middle management meetings, technology working parties, and other decision-making groups as appropriate.
  • As a member of the TTS library management team, collaborate with relevant groups such as literacy teachers, working parties, HODs and HOYs, to plan and build cross-phase transition programmes and 3-18 frameworks for information literacy and reader development.
  • Resource the Senior Library within an allocated budget.
  • Liaise with other Heads of Faculty to ensure broad library support of the curriculum.
  • Organise and arrange initiatives (which may include presentations to staff or parents) whenever the subject is part of a school curriculum focus.
  • Show commitment to the school’s Review and Development process and ensure all library staff participate in the process annually.
  • Collaborate with HR to manage the hiring of Senior Library staff as needed.

2. Information, Resources and Services Management


In consultation with library staff, teaching staff and school leadership:

  • Manage and develop the library resource collections (both physical and digital) Strategically plan (both long and short term) and manage the development of the library services, resources and.
  • Provide exemplary and professionally managed services, resources and.
  • Raise awareness of the library’s services, resources and systems to students, staff and parents.
  • Manage the training, monitoring, work allocation, review and development and continuing professional development of Senior Library staff.
  • Prepare, manage and monitor the library budget, with the assistance of library staff, in accordance with school practice.

3. Library Environment

  • Ensure the library is a vibrant, stimulating and multifunctional space in which students feel safe, welcomed and supported.
  • Be responsible for maintenance of and long-term planning of the Senior Library space.
  • Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

4. Reading Culture

  • Foster a love of reading, both for leisure and for academic development.
  • Collaborate with teaching and literacy staff to develop a library programme which exposes students to a range of genres, authors, cultures and themes as well as resources which support their curriculum topics and subjects.
  • Offer meaningful experiences that will assist in the development of multiple literacies through reading, viewing, listening and responding activities.
  • Ensure the reading needs of individual students are met and guidance is available to enable them to find resources to engage their interest and develop them as readers.
  • Promote reading, including author visits, and market both print and digital formats.

5. Information Literacy

  • Lead on the development of a planned, systematic, and cumulative Information Literacy continuum for students in Middle School (11-14), Upper School (14-16) and Sixth Form (16-18), which gradually increases students’ responsibility for their current and life-long learning.
  • Along with the Head of IB and the other members of Academic Integrity committee, lead on the development of a comprehensive Academic Integrity policy.
  • Embed Information literacy skills into learning opportunities by actively seeking collaboration with academic staff.
  • Provide instruction and support the community so they can determine need, locate, search, evaluate and use information effectively, ethically and legally.

6. Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver library lessons to students in the Middle School (11-14), as well as other research and information literacy sessions as needed throughout the Senior School.
  • Work with the Head of Senior Library to develop schemes of work for Middle School lessons and other library lessons as needed.
  • Deliver lessons that inspire and encourage students to enjoy reading and develop a deeper understanding of research skills and information literacy.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in libraries and education.

7. Whole School and International Perspectives

  • Develop and maintain open and effective lines of communication with students, staff, parents and the school leadership.
  • Collaborate with the library staff to maintain and update library policies and procedures.
  • Build a strong professional network in the international community in order to share and keep up to date with new ideas, practices and knowledge. This should involve membership of librarian associations e.g. ISLN, SLA, CILIP, ASLA, and online groups such as OzTL, ECIS and attendance at conferences (in person or online) which assist in the library’s development.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to life-long learning by participating in continuing professional development and provide opportunities for relevant, professional growth for all library staff.

8. Technology

  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging information resources and technologies.
  • Evaluate, implement and promote new resources and technologies that will enhance access to, and creation and use of, information resources.
  • Offer opportunities for students and library staff to utilise technology to actively engage them in the process of learning.
