Roles & Responsibilities

The Applications Solution Architect is a specialist role with prior experience and accountability of delivering scalable software and integration solutions across enterprise applications, ERP and data platforms.

This individual will work closely with the Enterprise Architect, System Architect, applications teams, and 3rd parties taking ownership of the discovery, design, development, testing and continuous improvement cycles of bespoke software and related development activities the existing applications landscape as well as transformational initiatives on the IT roadmap.

Functions and processes include:

  1. Software Design and Delivery Lifecycle governance
  2. Process Analysis, Capability Planning & Engineering Oversight
  3. Architectural oversight and technology alignment
  4. On-Prem, serverless (IaaS / PaaS) and hybrid client-server application design
  5. Design Integrity and Code Quality Assurance
  6. Vendor and Partner management
  • Formulate and progress overall design, technology selection and design concepts for software projects in accordance with Architectural Standards, Software Design and Delivery Principles.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the design, development, delivery, and support of the architecture software.
  • Recommend technologies that offer opportunities, identify, and address current and future architectural challenges within the portfolio of projects and strategic undertakings as per the IT roadmap.
  • Participate in the production of accurate estimates for the design and development phases.
  • Work with the product owners to ensure that plans reflect estimates, technical dependencies, and risks.
  • Involve people in decision making to engender enthusiasm, ownership, and personal commitment. Make credible decisions for the team when needed (when insufficient time or consensus fails).
  • Help shape, create, develop, support, and evolve the architecture that underpins enterprise grade software and integration solutions.
  • Create specification documents of the architecture, including environments, endpoints, interfaces, and integrations; and clearly articulate the architectural vision to in-house and 3rd party engineering resources to implement business value.
  • Assess the overall design and development time for projects through careful resource utilization, capacity planning and budget discipline.
  • Assist engineers with technical solutions to design requirements.
  • Champion and implement agile principles by enforcing DevOps and CI/CD principles to de-risk delivery, maintain code consistency, and reduce technical waste.
  • Audit designs to confirm adherence to the design approach and control the integrity of the delivered work packages by planning necessary QA checkpoints, unit tests and system acceptance test cycles.
  • Provide guidance to technical teams and business product owners during capturing and translating business processes into fit-for-purpose, scalable and extensible solution designs.
  • Stay current with changes in the areas of technology and business and apply this knowledge to revise and update the architecture keeping it fit for purpose.
  • Practice and advocate best practice approach to development.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT, MIS or relevant Certification Software Development
  • 8+ years of experience in software architecture and/or software development.
  • A broad understanding of programming and querying languages including Visual Basic, C#, C++, MSSQL, T-SQL, and JavaScript.
  • Experience in developing and/or implementing hi-performing enterprise-grade client-server applications and integrations using toolkits, APIs, components and frameworks native to the Windows Server and MS Azure serverless cloud (IaaS / PaaS) landscape.
  • Proven experience in delivering solutions using modern agile methodologies, data and deployment pipelines, serverless orchestration and CI/CD.
  • Experience operating with an engineering, agile and DevOps mindset.
  • Extensive experience of successfully and confidently engaging with product owners and being able to translate the key business drivers and requirements into Functional and Technical deliverables.
  • Exceptional customer-facing, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Capacity to train and guide other team members and business teams on software design, deployment and testing best practices.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent third party and stakeholder management.
  • MS Certified Solutions Expert (various)
  • Familiarity with contemporary programming and query languages like Rust and Python.
  • Experience in delivering hi-performing solutions in manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Familiarity with integrating warehousing management systems, handheld devices/readers and peripherals.
  • Application data migration mapping and cutover planning.
