Job Summary


The Medical Director is responsible to provide clinical and technical oversight for the safe and ethical provision of clinical laboratory services. The individual will play a key role in ensuring clinical tests are performed and reported promptly. The individual will also play a role in the development and execution of clinical development strategy. The individual is expected to bring a strong medical and scientific foundation and will work closely with laboratory developed test (LDT) and in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test development teams to define the most effective approach in LDT, IVD and companion diagnostic (CDx).


Essential Services and Responsibilities

  • Be the license holder for M Diagnostics in accordance with the PHMC regulations.
  • Delegate the responsibilities of the general supervisor, clinical consultant, quality systems manager and testing personnel to employees who are qualified to perform such tasks.
  • Responsible for providing pathology expertise for on-site or remote histological review. Examine clinical formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections, provide histological inputs and identify the region of interest (where the tumor sits) from haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining.
  • Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and medical reliability of the laboratory tests.
  • Participation in the quality management system, management of adverse outcome and non-conformities.
  • Participation in the onsite survey, appropriate management of the results of the on-site survey and performance in proficiency testing.
  • Provide oversight of all aspects of the laboratory’s quality management system to ensure conformance to requirements described in the quality management system chapter of the clinical laboratory practice standards.

Requirements

  • Resides in Singapore during the appointment as Medical Director.
  • Fully registered medical practitioner with Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and hold a valid practising certificate
  • Registered as a specialist in Pathology with the following qualifications:
  • A pass in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathology Part 1 and Part 2 examinations or other equivalent exit examinations from a professional board approved by the Director-General; and
  • At least 5 years of work experience in a clinical laboratory licensed under the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Act 1980 or in the provision of a clinical laboratory service licensed under this Act, or another equivalent clinical laboratory outside of Singapore approved by the Director-General.
  • Shall spend a minimum of 8 hours per week on site to direct and supervise the technical performance of the staff and be readily available for in-person or electronic consultation to the laboratory’s staffs. At all other times, the CGO is required to be accessible, which means always being contactable while the service is being provided, to oversee the service and provide directions/advice as appropriate.
