Roles & ResponsibilitiesJoin a dedicated and passionate team of Primary School educators in Invictus Bukit Timah. We are looking for a Founding Head of Department for Chinese to lead this department in developing department policies, and a fun and engaging Chinese curriculum. In addition to the Head of Department role, the teacher would be expected to:Act as a form teacher and be involved in the pastoral life of the schoolInvolve themselves fully in the life of the school and play an active part in the extracurricular programme, whether through involvement in games, clubs, or dramaAttend parent teacher conferencesAssess and record pupils' progress in accordance with departmental and school policiesAttend and contribute to departmental meetingsDevelop teaching and learning resourcesMonitor the work and progress of pupils, including those with specific learning needsPromote and safeguard the welfare of all studentsKey ResponsibilitiesPromote high standards in Chinese throughout the schoolLong-term development and short-term management of the Chinese curriculum across all levelsResponsibility for developing and updating the Department Handbook, and relevant associated documentsAnalysis and communication of department tracking to Head and Deputy HeadPreparation of all Chinese assessmentsChairing termly Department meetings and producing minutes sent to the Deputy HeadAuditing, planning and purchasing of department resourcesPresenting to parents and visitors at school eventsCommunicating with or meeting parents to discuss issues related to ChineseIntegration of technology into the Chinese curriculumValue holistic educationCreate a nurturing and stimulating learning environmentMaintain the positive ethos and core values of the school.Qualifications And Job RequirementsMinimum of 3 years' teaching experience, and a minimum of 2 years as a Subject/Level Head in a Primary school environmentCandidates must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related degrees from NUS, NTU, NIE or other reputable university.Must be able to speak and write in English and Chinese fluently. (Lessons will be conducted in English and Chinese, and communication with parents in English)Candidates with experience teaching at the primary levelMust be passionate in learning and teachingMust love working with childrenMust possess a fun-loving, energetic and bubbly dispositionMust be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word, PowerPoint, OutlookSkills and ExperienceTrack record of teaching excellence and excellent subject knowledgeCapacity to inspire pupils of all abilities and enhance pupil learningAbility to deliver, develop and manage curriculum in an imaginative and exciting wayProven communication and interpersonal skillsHigh level of literacy and attention to detailEmpathy to pupils, parents, staff and the communityCommitted to continual personal and professional developmentEffectively manages commitments and deadlinesICT competence and willingness to learn and use new technologiesWorks collaboratively and supportively with colleagues at school and other organisationsRespects and values the different experiences, ideas and backgrounds others can bring to work and to teamsAbility to motivate and encourage participation in activities both inside and outside the classroom and a willingness to take part in / organise trips and visitsA generosity of spirit towards the demands of a busy international school, as the role requires flexibility and may involve out of hours, weekend and holiday workDemonstrates high standards of behaviour and is able to model the school values (intellectual curiosity and scholarship, endeavour, breadth and balance, and valuing one another and the environment)Emotional resilience to cope with and learn from challenging situationsWhilst first rate management skills are essential, it is not necessary for the candidate to be an existing head of departmentSafeguardingInvictus International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all the students in its care and expects all applicants to share this commitment.
