We are currently recruiting a highly motivatedResearch Assistant/Associate in the team ofNanyang Assistant Professor Guan Xue Li. Our group is interested inunderstanding the roles of microbial lipids in human health andantimicrobial resistance. It is increasingly appreciated thatmicrobial lipids play critical functions in modulation of humanmetabolic and immune health, as well as infection outcome andtreatment responses. We employ an integrated systems biologyapproach, including development and application of lipidomics, tostudy the complex repertoire of bacterial lipids and aim toidentify lipid metabolic networks which can be modulated fortreatment of infections.

The successfulcandidate will have the opportunity to work with amultidisciplinary team of investigators in LKCMedicine, clinicaland industry partners, as well as the wider lipidomics community,including the microbial lipids interest group. Thisposition will expose the candidate to state-of-the-art technologiesfor lipidomics/ metabolomics, other leading edge researchfacilities in LKCMedicine and NTU and access to clinical samples,including bacterial isolates from humanpatients.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Optimizebioanalytical workflows for lipid analysis of microbial andmammalian samples from laboratory and clinicalsources
  • Perform sample preparation and LC-MS/MSanalysis
  • Assist in maintenance andtroubleshooting of HPLCs and massspectrometers
  • Routine operation ofLC-MS/MS
  • Assist in processing and qualitycontrol of lipidomics data
  • Support researchprojects
  • Prepare projectupdates
  • Participation in evaluation measuresand quality assurance
  • Research administrationand fulfilment of institutionalrequirements


KeyCompetencies andRequirements:
  • Bachelor's orMaster's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences,Bioengineering, Analytical Chemistry relateddisciplines
  • 1-2 years of working experience inbioanalysis using LC-MS, but recent graduates with the rightaptitude will be considered
  • Hands-on experiencewith operation and troubleshooting of high performance liquidchromatography mass spectrometer(s)preferred
  • Problem-solving and critical thinkingskills
  • Highly self-motivated and demonstrateindependence with minimal supervision
  • Possessesexcellent organizational and communication skills, fluent in spokenand written English
  • Able to supervise students,and work as a team
  • Able to workcollaboratively, and to handle several concurrent fast-pacedprojects
