About us

Datascience is an important component of biomedical and translationalresearch, where data of multiple modalities are being constantlygenerated at unprecedented scale. The Research Data Integrationgroup in the Biomedical Datahub Division of the BioinformaticsInstitute (BII), A*STAR, aims to bridge the complexity ofcomputational biology and data science with the needs of biologistsand clinicians to drive biological discoveries and predicttranslational outcomes. One of our immediate challenges is toanalyze and integrate and analyze multi-omics, imaging and clinicaldata generated by biomedical institutes in A*STAR, healthcareinstitutions and national initiatives in Singapore to improve theusability and interpretability of large-scale multimodal datasetsof cancer, metabolic diseases, and other diseases. We seekmotivated individuals to join us to push the potential ofbiomedical data in truly benefittingpatients.

Jobdescription

We are seeking aresearch officer to drive data management and analysis oflarge-scale biomedical multi-omics and clinical data. The candidatewill be expected handle a number of tasks, including curate and QCincoming large-scale multi-omics data, implement and benchmarkbioinformatics workflows, perform downstream analysis, develop filecatalogues, databases, knowledge graphs and visualization ofdatasets, and implement international data standards to ensure datainteroperability. The successful candidate will also extensivelymine, analyze and curate publicly available resources and developannotation tools and databases to link up with available datasetsof different diseases, including cancer and metabolic diseases. Thecandidate will also manage and maintain all data in a databasestructure and develop a searchable web portal for researchers andclinicians. This position offers the candidate an opportunity togain expert knowledge in multi-dimensional data from cancer andother diseases, and become computationally competent in deliveringthese knowledge to theend-user.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor/Master degree in Bioinformatics, ComputationalBiology, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Genetics,Biology or a related field.
  • Preferably with atleast 3 - 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient programming skills (e.g. Python, R, RStudio,Jupyter Notebook, Shinyapps)
  • Highlyexperienced with Unix/Linux environment and cloud architecture(AWS)
  • Familiar with database development (e.g.SQL), BI and AI/ML.
  • A background in lifesciences, biology, biomedical informatics or clinical research ispreferred.
  • Strong analytical andproblem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral andwritten communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently, and as part of a team, with apositive and enthusiastic learning attitude.
  • Competent project management and organizational skillswill be veryvaluable.
