UWCSEA has vacancy for August 2025 at its Dover Campus for a Teacher of Primary Physical Education (Ages 4 – 11) with a possible additional responsibility of Head Primary School PE.

The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking collaborator, passionate about delivering an exciting PE curriculum and who has at least 3 years' experience teaching PE as a Concept-based discipline in an International School. The candidate will join a vibrant and successful K12 PE Department with regular events taking place throughout the year.

Main Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for Primary School (PS) PE & swimming classes, supporting, nurturing and taking a genuine interest in the holistic development of all children.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a PE programme that supports and encourages the development and growth of the learner's skills, knowledge and understanding of health, physical well-being and game play; ensuring an inclusive teaching approach with appropriate differentiation.
  • Contribute to the implementation and review of the PS PE curriculum and resources, in liaison with the Head of PS PE.
  • Employ a wide variety of learning and teaching strategies including the use of new technologies to make learning visible, effective and enjoyable.
  • Be supportive of a child-centred approach to learning, able to nurture high levels of student agency.
  • Explore and develop meaningful interdisciplinary opportunities with the Primary teaching community.
  • Maintain student records as required; assess, observe, record and report on student progress, including various approaches to reporting to parents.
  • Ensure excellent lines of communication with parents through online learning platforms as well as face to face.
  • Explore, and support meaningful links with local service and Global Concerns in the Primary School.
  • Work in partnership with the Head of PS PE and Primary Head of Grades, by taking an active role in coordinating events for Infant students; for example, Morning of Sports, Swimming Galas, Learning Shares etc.
  • Oversee PE resource and equipment procurement and maintenance, in partnership with the Head of PS PE
  • Direct the Teaching Assistants in PE.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for students and follow up with students and parents to alert them to any challenges and to celebrate successes.
  • Swimming background and relevant qualification and experience is required; especially with younger children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Attend educational visits; residential and day trips as required.
  • Be genuinely interested in making a positive and proactive contribution to the wider life of the school.
  • Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs as may be reasonably requested by the Principal.

There is a possibility that the successful candidate will be considered for the role of Head of Primary PE. The Primary PE HoD, along with the PE HoDs of the Middle and High Schools, are jointly responsible for the following tasks:

  • coordinate the setting of the strategic direction of the PE Department.
  • coordinate long term planning for PE.
  • coordinate the PE curriculum to ensure it progresses logically K-12.
  • coordinate assessment and reporting in PE to ensure it progresses logically K-12.
  • coordinate PE budgets, timetable, activity rotas, department brochures and handbooks.
  • supervision of PE administrative and support staff along with the Director of Activities.
  • responsibility for PE facilities, in conjunction with the Director of Activities and the Director of Operations and Facilities.
Expectations and Standards
  • Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards
Person Specifications
  • A relevant degree, a recognized teaching qualification or certification in Physical Education and swimming and considerable International School teaching experience are expected.
  • At least 3 years' experience teaching PE as a Concept-based discipline in an International School.
  • A passion and drive for early years - junior school pedagogy.
  • A committed and creative practitioner, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative practice to raise achievement.
  • A passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, enthusiastic participation in and delivery of Professional Learning is expected. Evidence of regular and recent professional learning.
  • Willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service.
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service, though this can vary greatly in the PE Department.
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
