The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development. Applications are invited for:

Research Officer, Regional Social and Cultural Studies – 1 Year Contract (with the possibility of extension)

The Regional Social and Cultural Studies (RSCS) programme at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS) is now accepting applications for the position of Research Officer (Programme). The officer is responsible for assisting in programme operations and management support for research projects and activities under the RSCS programme. He or she should work independently with limited supervision, and will have the opportunity to undertake a personal research project.

[What you will be working on]

Responsibilities

Successful applicants are expected to: 

  • Assist the RSCS coordinator with the programme's projects that deal with multiculturalism, diversity, identity, inequality and migration, as well as other core projects, seminar series, operations, and external relations;

  • Assist in managing the SOJOURN journal, and editing of reports and publications by RSCS researchers;

  • Perform ISEAS institutional duties (e.g. note-taking);

  • Undertake a research project in collaboration with an RSCS researcher that will result in ISEAS written products. [What we are looking for]

Requirements

  • University degree (good BA, or MA) in social sciences or related fields, preferably in Geography (Human), Southeast Asian Studies, Malay Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, History, an advanced degree would be an advantage;

  • Good communication and writing skills in English;

  • Demonstrating strong interest in Southeast Asian societies and politics is required,

  • Experience in copy-editing and other forms of editorial work would be highly desirable

  • Proficiency in web and social media editing and content management would be an advantage;

  • Positive work attitude, a high sense of professionalism, and ability to work under demanding circumstances
