As an Adaptive consultant, you will be fully supported by the Simmons & Simmons team with a sponsoring Partner and a client team with whom we would encourage you to engage on a regular basis.

You will have access to the firm's resources and Know-how and have the opportunity to be involved in training and development at the Firm.


Main purpose of the role:


Simmons Adaptive are currently seeking an experienced consultant to join our client, a multinational bank, on a ~ 5 month assignment starting in July 2023.


The consultant will handle all Distribution and/or Product related matters for the Wealth and Personal banking - Insurance (WPB Insurance) business in Singapore.


  • Legal work on Distribution matters primarily involves providing legal advice relating to the sale and distribution of WPB Insurance products through third party channels. The work will include the review and negotiation of distribution and partnership agreements and consideration of the company's risk framework relating to the engagement of third party distributors.
  • Insurance products covered include Life (including high net worth, retail and investmentlinked products) and Health (including individual and Group hospitalisation and employee benefits).
  • Product work will involve (a) preparation of standard documentation for new products and reviewing/amending ontheshelf products as required, (b) participation in product governance discussions to assess legal, reputational and conduct risks and (c) in respect of more complex products, considerations of customer/sales suitability.
  • Evaluate and respond to changes in the law and regulation relevant to the products and channels under the lawyer's remit so as to manage existing legal risks and identify and manage new/ emerging legal risks.

Person specification:

  • You are a qualified lawyer with no less than 7 years PQE.
  • You have solid post qualification experience working in insurance and/or corporate commercial practices of a reputable international or Singapore law firm or, at an inhouse legal department (of which at least 3 years must be gained at a reputable international or Singapore law firm).
  • You have experience with insurance or banking documentation. Strong drafting skills required.
  • You have experience with commercial transactions and documentation including advising on legal issues relating to confidentiality, data privacy, competition law, dispute management, consumer protection.
  • You sound knowledge of insurance law and regulations applicable in Singapore. Experience with crossborder laws and regulations of other Asian jurisdictions is a plus.
  • You have ability to work directly with cross functional teams including business teams.
  • You are collaborative, adaptable and open to innovation and new ideas/ ways of working.
  • You have strong ability to prioritise with lateral thinking/ problem solving skills.
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
  • You have ability to work under pressure.
  • You are a selfstarter.
  • You are flexible with a willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
