Job Description



We are looking for a skilled Hardware Architect (AI Sub-system) to join our R&D team and take charge of designing the next-gen hardware for AI sub-system in high-performance computing SoCs.

Our division is dedicated to utilizing cutting-edge AI and cloud technologies for developing top-notch AI inference for advanced driver safety engineers creating self-driving cars and other high-performance computing products. Renesas is a global leader in automotive electronics, offering a rare chance to build the infrastructure for deploying our AI software to the billions of devices shipped annually. You will be part of our newly established AI & Cloud Engineering team comprising approximately 100 software engineers. With a significant surge in demand for our AI-related products, we are set to expand threefold over the next few years, providing ample opportunities for you to contribute to our team's growth. Our primary focus for hiring is in Tokyo, Beijing, and Singapore. If you are successful and reside elsewhere, we are open to assisting with relocation based on team requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and lead in designing the architecture of the next-gen multi-core AI sub-system, including CPU/DSP/NPU, memory hierarchies, scalable interconnects, etc.
  • Conduct HW/SoC architectural modeling, performance analysis, trade-off analysis, PPA optimization, etc.
  • Provide architecture specifications to design teams and effectively communicate them to various stakeholders such as system, software, and architecture peers, along with technology leadership.
  • Collaborate with silicon and platform bring-up for verifying and debugging the AI sub-system and ensuring its performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in SoC and/or ASIC architecture and design.
  • Previous direct experience (over 5 years) in NPU architecture design.
  • Solid understanding of architecture analysis and performance modeling, ranging from basic analytical models to intricate cycle-accurate performance models and correlation.

Preferences

  • Familiarity with current and emerging compute architectures for HPC workload is advantageous.
  • Experience in NPU, GPU, and micro-processor development is beneficial, especially in multi-core systems.
  • Knowledge of CXL, ARM, and/or RISCV ISAs is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of AMBA bus infrastructure (ACE/AXI/AHB).
  • Familiarity with memory subsystems and memory hierarchy designs, including cache coherence protocols, memory models, and NUMA architectures.
  • Proficient in coding with C/C++ and Verilog/System Verilog.
  • Working knowledge of ARM and/or RISCV CPU.
  • Familiarity with existing simulation capabilities (like GEM5, FastSIM, Platform Architect) or ability to create new simulation capabilities when needed.
