Business Area Description:

The Synthetic Product Group (SPG) at Goldman Sachs provides institutional clients and hedge funds with tailored products that excel in tax optimization, balance sheet management, and funding strategies. Revenue sources include commissions, financing, and dividends derived from trading CFD and Equity Swap OTC instruments, as well as futures, ETFs, and structured products. Within a front-to-back alignment structure, engineers collaborate closely with the revenue-generating segment of the business. This fosters opportunities for impactful partnerships across the SPG sector, enhancing the firm's efficiency in delivering superior services to our clients.

Your Impact:

This role offers an exceptional chance to delve into the Synthetic Products Group (SPG) sector and its traded products. Technology remains deeply integrated with the business, providing vast learning prospects. You will cultivate a blend of technical and non-technical skills through engaging projects within a real-time distributed system, informal on-the-job mentoring, and formal training via the GS University career development program.

As a pivotal developer within the Synthetics Trading Technology team, you will lead various technology projects aimed at driving revenues. Your focus will center on the execution stack for synthetics flows across diverse Asian markets. This stack, founded on a low-latency, sequencer-based architecture, supports advanced inventory management functionalities crucial for enhancing client experience and mitigating risk for the SPG desk. Operating within a team of adept, experienced developers, the environment promotes open dialogues and prioritizes the delivery of robust, dependable software. This position also paves the way for potential advancement into leadership roles. In this capacity, the successful candidate will:

  • Design, develop, test, and document highly reliable applications, tools, and workflows to bolster new revenue streams, enhance trader efficiency, and fortify related infrastructure within a structured, yet agile environment.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships with traders, coverage desk personnel (ranging from Analyst to Managing Director level), operations teams, and other key collaborators.
  • Enhance trading and inventory management platforms to facilitate clients and hedge firm risk.
  • Uphold system stability and integrity while proposing enhancements and optimizations.
  • Abstract and automate standard desk workflows to streamline trading processes and scale new business ventures.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork, high motivation, eagerness to shoulder responsibilities, ability to work autonomously, and effectively manage a demanding workload in a fast-paced setting.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of 3 years of technology experience in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in object-oriented design and programming (C++, Java, or other OO technology).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen awareness of technical risks.
  • Keen interest in financial markets and a predisposition for learning.
  • Background in developing real-time, low-latency systems (e.g., order management systems, complex event processing, or transaction sequencing architectures).
  • A dedicated team player with strong communication skills, receptive to guidance, yet willing to actively engage in design and strategy discussions.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and adept at thriving under pressure without compromising development processes.
  • Possess client-facing abilities to cultivate positive relationships with business entities and other technology teams, both in support and project collaboration capacities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in JVM internals, tuning for low latency, GC-free real-time operations.
  • Prior exposure to event sourcing (sequenced core stream) based architecture.
  • Experience in Linux systems programming, encompassing memory management, concurrent programming infrastructure, and networking stack.
