Job Description – Secondary School Teacher

Reporting to: Head of Department

Description: The teacher is in charge of delivering Cambridge Lower Secondary/Cambridge IGCSE/IBDP curriculum for different Grade levels as assigned by the Principal and scheduled by the school. They collaborate within a curriculum team to offer effective teaching and learning programs aimed at enhancing student engagement and achievement in one or more Learning Areas.

The teacher actively supports and upholds the NPSI Vision and Mission while demonstrating professional behavior consistently. They are well-versed in NPSI policies and procedures, act as a positive and professional role model, an expert in their subject area, and contribute to the school's positive reputation through their professional interactions with students, parents, and the broader community.

Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Prepare the yearly work plan based on the provided curriculum and scheme of work.
  • Create the curriculum outline and assessment schedule.
  • Consider students' starting points to plan lessons.
  • Draft lesson plans at least 2 weeks ahead and have them approved by the HOD.
  • Maintain good order by following the school's discipline policies.
  • Foster a purposeful learning environment in all classes.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Create relevant and challenging homework assignments, approved by the HOD, and upload them on the Firefly learning platform following school guidelines.
  • Select appropriate resources and activities, approved by HOD, and publish them on Firefly.
  • Recognize and cater to special educational needs and gifted students in collaboration with the HoD, SLT, and Guidance Counsellor.
  • Complete Teacher Unit Reflection and Student Unit Reflection on time, identifying AFIs and CAPs and sharing insights with co-teachers and HOD.
  • Provide additional support classes for struggling students.
  • Ensure the well-being of all learners all the time.
  • Be punctual for classes and never leave students unsupervised.

Assessment, Recording, Reporting, and General Administration:

  • Maintain accurate records of all student work.
  • Promptly assess and return assigned tasks.
  • Offer suitable and timely feedback on student work.
  • Prepare test papers, grading schemes, and test blueprints as required by the course and school policies.
  • Follow school's marking and moderation guidelines consistently.
  • Utilize assessment data from various evaluations to pinpoint areas for improvement and enhance learner outcomes.
  • Write school reports following the institution's policies.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and keep parents updated on their child's progress and future goals.
  • Report students who are underperforming to the HOD.
  • Conduct invigilation/supervision duties as needed by the school.
  • Research and recommend suitable resources for the department.
  • Set high standards and encourage self-reflection for better student achievement.
  • Promote and uphold academic integrity for all students.

Extracurricular Activities

  • Assist with school events as directed by the SLT.
  • Engage in and enrich the extracurricular program at NPSI.
  • Oversee activities contributing to a safe and orderly environment.
  • Organize and manage competitions and events relevant to the subject area.

Pastoral care:

  • Monitor students' social and emotional needs and provide support as necessary following school guidelines.
  • Seek assistance from HOD, SLT members for addressing students' pastoral care needs.
  • Build positive relationships with students to be a source of support and guidance.
  • Report concerns to HOD/SLT.
  • Maintain precise records of student attendance.

Performance management and professional development:

  • Regularly conduct lesson observations and provide timely feedback.
  • Mid-term and end-of-year performance evaluations to gauge teacher performance.
  • Support teacher's professional development to stay updated on pedagogical trends.
  • Represent NPSI positively through respectful behavior on and off-campus.
  • Abide by school's employment terms and comply with the employee handbook, school policies, and procedures.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues and assist when needed by the school.
  • Commit to continuous learning, embrace new concepts, and engage in professional growth opportunities like courses, mentoring, and coaching.
