Position Overview

The Systems Engineer handles complex projects involving systems provisioning, installations, configurations, monitoring, and maintenance. He/She leverages advanced specialist knowledge and skills in systems administration, striving for continuous optimization of systems performance. The Engineer implements system enhancements and guides other IT personnel in resolving intricate issues. On-call availability is required, covering various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Engineer excels at swiftly and effectively addressing emergent issues. Through a systematic approach, he identifies and evaluates underlying problems, collaborating with the team to develop solutions. Effective communication and a high standard of service are key traits.

Role & Responsibilities

Execute Systems Administration Service Levels

  • Monitor systems performance, including response times
  • Supervise backups, optimization, recovery procedures, and routine troubleshooting
  • Maintain regular communication with technical, applications, and operational staff to uphold systems integrity and security
  • Determine short- and long-term systems requirements
  • Manage systems report generation

Advise on System Capabilities

  • Offer guidance to senior leaders on system concepts and functional capabilities
  • Provide technical counsel to the team and clients on system installation, setup, and configuration
  • Interpret internal/external business issues, proposing solutions and best practices
  • Implement plans for sharing systems securely and in a controlled manner

Develop New Systems

  • Lead the development of new systems based on requirements
  • Design security and integrity controls
  • Conduct testing and implementation of new systems
  • Define system maintenance procedures
  • Analyze new systems' use to identify areas for improvement
  • Lead research efforts for advanced and automated system administration approaches

Optimize Systems Performance

  • Explore opportunities to enhance system service delivery, focusing on availability, reliability, scalability, and security
  • Perform regular system audits and upgrades
  • Develop automated processes for defining, measuring, and reporting service quality, stability, and capacity

Resolve Issues

  • Assess system risks
  • Identify and advise on complex system issues to stakeholders
  • Investigate causes of system issues
  • Resolve intricate problems
  • Provide escalation support for user-reported issues

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5-6 years' experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining IT systems
  • MCSE certification preferred; ITSM knowledge is a plus
  • Experience in data center operations supporting Wintel system and network technology
  • Solid background in server virtualization technologies such as VMWare; familiarity with Cisco technology is beneficial
  • Experience with healthcare applications is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills across all stakeholder levels
  • Will require 12-hour shift work
