The Business Risk Officer plays a critical role in staying updated on industry developments and contributing to the strategic direction by applying them to their job and the business. They are a recognized expert in a specific area within the business, requiring a fundamental understanding of the commercial landscape.

In the organization, there are several individuals who possess a similar level of expertise in their respective areas.

Effective communication and diplomacy skills are essential for guiding, influencing, and persuading others, especially colleagues in different departments and occasional external clients.

This role has a significant impact on the area through handling complex deliverables and providing advice on the technology or operational aspects of the business. The work done influences the entire area, thereby impacting the overall performance and efficiency of the sub-function/job family.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support multiple risk and control programs for the organization, defining strategy, processes, tools, and reporting for consistent and excellent global risk management.
  • Establish a quarterly audit process to ensure accurate calculation and control.
  • Collaborate with business partners to address findings and suggest improvements in practices.
  • Develop procedural implementation and change management processes with the Operations and Reporting team to enforce proper governance and controls.
  • Review procedures for consistency and gaps concerning regulations and their impact on customer experience.
  • Conduct internal tests on dispute processes to ensure control.
  • Track exceptions to dispute policy and determine the underlying reasons for these exceptions.
  • Analyze data to understand the effects on Customer Experience and Regulatory compliance.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exercise judgment and autonomy.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for senior stakeholders and team members.
  • Assess risks when making business decisions, with a focus on protecting the firm's reputation, as well as Citigroup, its clients, and assets by ensuring compliance with laws, rules, and regulations, following policies, applying ethical judgment, and reporting control issues transparently.
Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in Business Risk & Controls.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access, SAS, SQL, and Visual Basic are advantageous. At least 5 years of experience in financial services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational influencing skills.
  • Experience in third-party vendor management preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead global teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Track record of developing and implementing strategies and process improvements.
Education:
  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially a Master's degree.
