Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef assisting in preparation, cooking, and presentation of produce
  • Manage a section with the help of Commis Chefs
  • Prepare and cook food to restaurant standards
  • Supervise the Commis Chef on the section
  • Implement waste controls
  • Control and rotate section stock
  • Complete kitchen cleaning schedule
  • Understand restaurant administration procedures
  • Have detailed knowledge of the menu
  • Work as a team
  • Comply with legal requirements and food hygiene standards
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
  • Report maintenance issues
  • Maintain restaurant and menu standards
  • Minimize wastage
  • Use stock items correctly
  • Give detailed descriptions of dishes
  • Meet health and safety requirements
  • Support Sous and Head Chef and colleagues
  • Ensure smooth and efficient section operations
  • Provide training and support to Commis chefs

Job Requirements

  • Diploma in Culinary Arts / Pastry/ Bakery
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a full kitchen with 2 years in a similar capacity
  • Food hygiene and safety certification
  • Available for rotating shifts, weekends & public holidays
  • Professional appearance
  • Full understanding and execution of roles
  • Effective teamwork
  • Task prioritization and time management
  • Clear and professional communication
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and seek guidance when needed
